18 May 08 - Heather in hospital
Just to keep you in the loop, Heather got taken into hospital on Saturday. She's been off sick since Wednesday with what we thought was a stomach bug. On Saturday, she literally turned blue and started shaking uncontrollably, so I had to send for the paramedics. They put her on a nebuliser and her colour returned. But they took her into hospital to get checked over. She's been there ever since. She's in considerable discomfort at the moment, as she has difficult to find veins, so they keep making stabs at getting blood out of her. But they've managed it so far. Last night, her temperature rose to 40.5 degrees, glucose levels up to 25 and blood pressure up to 162/93. Administrations over the past 24 hours have brought these levels down to a more respectable level (temp 36.9, glucose 12.6, BP 144/90). Although no prognosis has yet been announced, it's looking like a kidney infection. She remains in the Clinical Decision Unit at the Williams Harvey and she may move onto a ward tomorrow sometime. I'm sending out messages to key people, but will provide additional information to anyone who would like it. Will keep in touch.
