19 May 08 - Heather in hospital Day 3

Well, today started off good, but got worse as the day progressed.

Having got things sorted out at home and after picking up supplies, I went to the hospital. Heather was still in the CDU and had lunch just after I arrived. They had been trying to find her a side room, as she was kept awake by the man next to her snoring all night. I then found out that she isn’t going to be released for another 5-7 days!!!.

Later in the day (just as Dave turned up), she was moved to the Cambridge M2 ward. Shame really, as CDU was a nice place to be. However, the staff on the ward are also nice. We settled it and she had some more observations taken (glucose level down to 10.2 – best yet).

However, at 4:30pm, she started to go blue and got very cold, just as she was on Saturday. Her temperature had rose again to 39.1 degrees. After she had been on the nebulizer again, she was visited by what seemed to be an endless stream of doctors doing various tests and taking more blood (not easy, as they have trouble finding her veins as it is – in fact, they had to get an ultrasound to find a vein to put yet another cannula in her arm).

Once she had got a little better, Chippy and Sam visited, but we all had to leave about 7:45pm. Last we heard was that she was going for a CT scan sometime during the evening.

I got a text from her just now to say that there have found kidney stones. Not sure what method they are going to employ to get rid of those.

Watch this space.
